Emetic
The drug used to induce vomiting in patients is called emetic drug.
Laxative
Mildly increases the mobility of GIT.
Patients using these drugs have semi-solid feces.
Purgative
These drugs are used to destroy the constipation.
Moderately increases the mobility of GIT.
Cathartics
Drastically increases the mobility of GIT.
They causes shooting diarrhea in patient.
Sedatives
Chemicals which depress the CNS mildly.
They causes drowsiness in patient.
Hypnotics
These drugs are used to induce normal sleep.
Narcotics
They produce profound sleep in the patients
Anesthetics
CNS is depressed by them to such a large scale that sensation of body is completely
lost.
These are also used in surgical operations.
Expectorant
Drugs used to extract out the thick fluids of the respiratory tract especially in older
patients.
Anti pruritic
Drugs for inhibition of itching
Antipyretic
Used to prevent or reduce fever
Astringent
Drugs which cause roughness in mucosal membranes.
Causes contraction of skin cells and other tissues.
Causes feeling of dryness in skin.
Acaricide
Used to kill ticks and mites.
Libido
Drugs used to decrease or increase the sexual desire.
Styptics
Drugs used to stop bleeding of minor injuries.
Carminative
Drugs used to prevent formation of gas in GIT or remove the said gas from the GIT.
Haematinic
Drug used to increase the hemoglobin content of blood or treat the anemia.
